Random article

You have to check this out. A bit like Perriair. Fans of Spaceballs will get where I'm coming from immediately.

This is the BBC article that caught my eye and led to the previous site. *quickly checks date to make sure it isn't a piss take....although it could be I suppose*

Late Posting

Greetings and salutations. A bit of a catch up seeing as I have been temporarily indisposed for the past few days. Also, just in case this gets a little random, I have been inhaling petroleum based adhesive for about 4 hours today....no I am not wyrd, I have been doing some roof repair.

Cricket - Was that a gobsmacking match or what? I think the final at the Oval is going to be one to remember. Will England recover The Ashes? We shall see...starts a week on Thursday.

Oh, forgot to mention this before.....coming this September - A1GP. Yes, a new racing series people. Based around a single make of car, and a sealed engine unit, this is country vs country. Brainchild of Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum, this could be one to watch....I mean good racing worth watching.

Random article to look at from the BBC News site - Squirrel Helps With Mobile Calls. Isn't that the coolest thing?

Still running with the Beeb - Big Brother star told to leave UK. Star?? Really? I mean off BB?? That is just being more than a little optimistic. I believe stars are people like...Clive Owen, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts etc. Makosi is not a star ok?

Iron Maiden - Death On The Road - out now. Talking of Maiden, did you hear about the hassle they had in San Bernadino at their last Ozzfest gig? Methinks they did well by trying to do the gig as best as they could. Maiden rule....enough said.

Well it looks like New Orleans got hammered yesterday, apparently 80% underwater. Hopefully they can pump all that water away and start rebuilding fairly quickly, but I think it is going to be a long process.

Other news - Saudi dissident shuts down site - this is a good thing.

I have an incredibly long post coming up eventually....as and when it has been screened for errors, mistakes, insinuations and downright offensive comments....in other words fairly soon. :D

Until the next post then....toodle pip.

ps - it appears that the Make Poverty History site is down....which for some reason is slowing the loading of the blog down. Why? Hmm...I wonder if it is affecting the Truth Laid Bear Ecosystem?

Fashion

I know, I know, what am I doing with a post on fashion? Well, I had a thought (like you do), and thought I would tell you about it.

Why do teenagers wear tracksuits? It is apparently a fashion statement. I personally think that it looks rubbish. What gets me though is that tracksuits aren't the cheapest things around. It must cost a fortune.

Personally, I think shirt & trousers looks better....I mean, I barely wear jeans anymore....my current Bob The Builder mode notwithstanding. Don't people have a sense of style anymore? Oh well, it must be me.

All I need now is a black jacket, and another black shirt. Then I'm sorted.

Update

Greetings and salutations,

As you might have noticed, I have been tweaking the pages. This is to basically make it more organised, because it looked a bit of a mess. Hopefully it is easier to read (then again maybe not), and I have been tweaking this in Firefox, so hopefully it isn't knackered up.

If you can see something wrong with this site, let me know, and I'll try and fix it....bearing in mind I am making it up as I go along...

In other news:

Former Detective Chief Superintendent Jack Slipper of the Yard has died. Best known for the being the head of the Robbery Squad (the predecessor to the Flying Squad) in the hunt for Ronnie Biggs and the other members of the Great Train Robbery.

The weather in Europe appears to be taking its toll. Floods all over the place, but it is drought conditions in Spain and Portugal, so the fires are still going strong.

Hmm.....those that preach violence are apparently going to be deported. Apparently some groups are concerned that they might be deported to countries that have a death penalty and torture people. This is a problem because their human rights will be affected.

So? What about the human rights of those that were killed in London? What about Madrid? Bali? Kenya? The list goes on.

Late comment - The Royal Dragoon Guards do 'Is This The Way to Amarillo?', the Royal Navy ship HMS Campbelltown does 'Bohemian Rhapsody', I wonder if the RAF are going to have a go?

News

Dr Moog has died aged 71.

Now read these 2 articles from the BBC -
Gate Threatens To End UK Business, and from the T&G Union -Calling Notice - Tony Woodley to Address Mass Meeting of Gate Gourmet Sacked Workers.

Now does that sound like threatening behaviour to you? Is that really the message that the T&G want to spread to all the companies in the UK? It is a Gate Gourmet problem, it is their staff that went on strike.

Gate Gourmet acquired the catering business of British Airways in 1997 with a 10 year contract. In 2002, Gate Gourmet was sold by Swissair Group to Texas Pacific Group. See the Gate Gourmet site for press releases, click on the Media Corner, then Press Archive.

Now threatening BA doesn't help, especially if they decide to cut their losses. Apparently there isn't a company big enough to cover their requirements from Heathrow, other than Gate Gourmet at the moment. I am willing to bet that they are looking for alternatives now though. They aren't going to want an outside company's problems causing them unnecessary hassle.

Adverts

Is it me? I notice that a lot of adverts these days seem to contain a lot of sexual references.

Does a car advert have to use it? I mean the Mazda one....with the mannequin. Is there any beauty product that doesn't use it?

I'm not a prude, but does it have to get shoved down our necks all the time? How long before we get actual sex used as an advert? Somehow I think, not long.

Oh, well end of rant.

Hmm....update!! No more anonymous comments, I don't appreciate getting spam.

Denmark 4 : 1 England - oops.....not quite the score that Sven is looking for. Do you get the vague impression that they are going to get their arses kicked? That was only a friendly as well....doesn't say much does it?

Milestone! and other things.

Wow....1000 visitors!!!

Thank you everyone that has stopped by, and hope that you liked what you saw....or at least weren't repelled by it. Is that the right word? Hopefully nothing too warped in there, though I will be returning to some strange subjects fairly soon.

A big thank you for those that have ventured here more than once....I hope the experience hasn't had any lasting effects. :D

Article from the Washington Post - Hmm.....do you get the impression that there are cracks appearing?

Paula Radcliffe has won a marathon.....so why did she do so badly at the Olympics...i.e. dropping out.

oooh.....the cricket is getting interesting. The series is tied at 1-1 with a draw in the 3rd test. 2 more to go....I wonder if they are going to be as tight as the last 2? Go on England!!

More Stuff

Oh look....Omar Bakri has been told to stay away. Nice one....even if the Lebanese did let him go....and another is going to be deported to Jordan it appears.

Other stuff:
An article from Fatemag.com about the Bermuda Triangle effects courtesy a link off Fortean Times Breaking News on 12/8 - sounds quite bizarre, but interesting.

Also from Fatemag, this article about UFO's and NASA. If that doesn't make you think, even just a little, you obviously have no sense of interest.

Stuff

BA - pardon? British Airways is getting hammered because their T&G Union Members have decided to go on strike in support of fellow T&GU Members who have been sacked by a company who supplies BA amongst others.

Is this insane or what? BA are now having major problems because of something that has nothing to do with them.

Doesn't say much for the T&GU does it?

Bakri arrested in Lebanon! - yes!!

Comments

A little bit of stuff that I thought I'd make mention of. Not necessarily from today.

Isn't NASA feeling relieved at the moment- a successful return of the Discovery. Of course, the shuttle may never fly again. I'd like to know why there has apparently been very little done to come up with a better system instead of the heatshield tiles. Lets face it, it is 24 years since the first launch, however many more to when it was designed. Are you seriously telling me that the advances in science and technology have not created a solution to the tile problem...i.e. they aren't very solid, and are glued on? Surely a skin could be created. Oh well, I suppose we should look to people like Burt Rutan and the Scaled Composites team for the future.

Paula Radcliffe - why all the fuss? She has not got my respect anymore since the Olympic Games....as she stopped in both races...not apparently through exhaustion. I don't think she has the mental focus to do it anymore unfortunately.

Hmm...Omar Bakri Mohammed - don't come back.

Nagasaki

60 years ago today, the US dropped a second atomic weapon on Nagasaki, killing around 70,000 people.

Of course, the deaths caused by the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki didn't stop on the days of the attacks. Even now, children are being born with serious genetic defects.

Sadly, it seems that no-one has learnt from the acts of the past.

Latest

ok, movie news...Stealth is a pretty good film. Heads-up for those that are going to watch it but haven't seen it yet - stay until the end of the credits....there is a bit on at the end....and I mean the end of the credits.

On other news.....I like it.....treason for those that advocate violence. Wasn't treason punishable by execution at one point? Well....hanging for sure. I think it sends a message.....you break the law, we're coming for you.

As the saying goes.....'be afraid, be very afraid' or alternatively....the H2G2 version...

'do not be alarmed...be very, very frightened'

Thoughts

ok..part 1! Wonderfalls!

You may have heard about it. Anyhow, in the UK it is on Sky1..and used to be on at the reasonable time of 9:00pm on Tuesdays after Enterprise. I say used to be, because now the powers that be have decided that it should be on at midnight on Wednesdays. Pardon? I thought it was kind of cool....obviously I'm not the right demographic that they were aiming for.

Talking of Enterprise....what was with the final episode? Harking back to an old Next Gen story. Couldn't really have ruined it more. Oh well....we won't know what Archer had to say to the delegates...

On other thoughts...the Shuttle.

Now, I don't know about you, but that looked odd to say the least. You're telling me that the 'grout' between heat shield tiles is of that consistency...and stick. If that isn't a piece of promo waffle, then I'm surprised that the shuttle programme has lasted so long...check out the clip
here on the NASA site. Your comments please.

Interesting thing I came across on the BBC about slavery in Britain..and how things changed...makes you think.
